Carnival Glory Slip and Fall Lawsuit: Georgia Man Injured on Wet Lido Deck Pool Area
Raymond Jennings, a Georgia resident, has filed a maritime personal injury lawsuit against Carnival Corporation in the Southern District of Florida. The complaint, filed under Case No. 1:25-cv-23166-CMA, alleges that Jennings suffered severe injuries, including a ruptured patellar tendon requiring surgical repair, after slipping on a wet Lido Deck surface while exiting the pool on the Carnival Glory on May 26, 2024.
Passenger Injured on Carnival Glory Due to Wet and Slippery Deck with No Handrails or Warnings
According to the complaint, Jennings was attempting to step over a low barrier while exiting the pool when his foot slipped on a puddle of water or another slippery substance. The lawsuit claims that the area near the pool exit was unreasonably dangerous due to standing water, inadequate drainage, and the absence of non-slip materials or handrails for support. Jennings alleges that there were no warning signs, cones, or crew members advising passengers of the hazard.
The complaint asserts that Carnival was aware that its Lido Deck pool exits present a heightened risk for slips and falls, especially in areas with heavy passenger traffic and wet surfaces. Jennings claims that Carnival failed to implement proper safety measures, such as anti-slip strips or readily accessible handrails, despite knowledge of these risks.
Carnival Accused of Failing to Maintain Safe Deck Surfaces and Ignoring Known Slip Hazards
The lawsuit cites Carnival’s internal safety protocols, which reportedly identify open decks as areas of “most potential slips and falls.” Jennings’s attorneys reference numerous prior lawsuits involving similar Lido Deck slip and fall incidents aboard Carnival ships, including Ellis v. Carnival Corporation, Anthony v. Carnival Corporation, and Blythe v. Carnival Corporation. These prior cases are presented as evidence that Carnival was on notice of the hazardous conditions yet failed to correct or mitigate them across its fleet.
The complaint also highlights Carnival’s repeated use of the same deck flooring material on all of its vessels, arguing that the flooring is inadequate for wet areas and does not meet reasonable slip-resistance standards.
Complaint Alleges Negligent Maintenance, Failure to Correct Hazards, and Lack of Warnings on Carnival Glory
Jennings brings three counts of negligence against Carnival: negligent maintenance, negligent failure to correct dangerous conditions, and negligent failure to warn. He alleges that Carnival failed to properly inspect and maintain the deck, neglected to address recurring wet and slippery conditions, and failed to warn passengers of the hazards associated with stepping over the pool’s barrier into a wet zone.
The complaint further alleges that Carnival breached its duty to exercise reasonable care by not providing sufficient staff to monitor and maintain safe conditions on the Lido Deck, failing to install handrails or slip-resistant surfaces, and not issuing timely warnings about wet flooring.
Plaintiff Seeks Compensation for Surgical Injuries, Medical Bills, and Lost Earnings
As a result of the fall, Jennings claims he suffered significant injuries, including a full-thickness rupture of his left patellar tendon and a severe left ankle sprain, both of which required surgical intervention and ongoing rehabilitation. He also claims he has experienced pain and suffering, emotional distress, lost wages, diminished earning capacity, and the inability to enjoy his cruise and daily activities. His damages are alleged to be permanent and continuing in nature.
