Florida Couple Sues Carnival Cruise Line After Slip and Fall on Glass Staircase Aboard Mardi Gras
Adam Levari and his wife, Jingyi Wang, residents of Bushnell, Florida, have filed a maritime personal injury lawsuit against Carnival Corporation in the Southern District of Florida. The lawsuit, docketed under Case No. 1:25-cv-22777-BB, stems from a slip and fall accident Levari allegedly suffered while using a glass staircase connecting Decks 7 and 8 aboard the Carnival Mardi Gras on August 8, 2024.
Cruise Passenger Slips on Slippery Glass Staircase Aboard Mardi Gras, Suffers Serious Injuries
According to the complaint, Levari was a fare-paying passenger aboard the Carnival Mardi Gras when he slipped and fell on a dangerously slick glass staircase. The staircase, which connects the ship’s 7th and 8th decks, allegedly contained a slippery substance that Carnival failed to clean, remove, or warn passengers about. The complaint further claims that Carnival negligently allowed this dangerous condition to persist, creating an unreasonable risk to guests moving between decks.
Carnival Accused of Negligent Maintenance, Inspection, and Failure to Warn About Hazardous Conditions
The lawsuit alleges that Carnival knew or should have known about the presence of a slippery substance on the staircase and failed to take adequate precautions. Levari’s legal team argues that Carnival breached its duty of care by not properly inspecting, maintaining, or cleaning the area. The complaint states that no warning signs were posted to alert passengers of the hazard, and that Carnival allowed the unsafe condition to exist for a length of time sufficient for it to have been discovered and corrected through reasonable inspection protocols.
Plaintiff Alleges Injuries Are Permanent and Seeks Damages for Medical Expenses and Loss of Enjoyment of Cruise
As a result of the fall, Levari alleges he suffered serious and potentially permanent injuries to his body and extremities. He also claims to have experienced pain, suffering, physical impairment, and incurred medical expenses for treatment of his injuries. The lawsuit asserts these injuries are ongoing in nature and are expected to continue to affect Levari’s health and well-being in the future. The complaint seeks damages exceeding $75,000, exclusive of costs and interest.
Spouse Brings Derivative Claim for Loss of Consortium and Associated Expenses Following Mardi Gras Injury
In addition to Levari’s personal injury claim, his wife Jingyi Wang is seeking damages for loss of consortium. The lawsuit alleges that Wang has suffered a diminished quality of life and companionship as a result of her husband’s injuries. She also seeks compensation for indirect financial losses and out-of-pocket expenses related to his medical care and recovery.
