Florida Woman Sues Norwegian Cruise Line After Slip and Fall on Loose Tile and Gravel Aboard Norwegian Getaway
Lydia Sosa, a Florida resident, has filed a maritime personal injury lawsuit against NCL (Bahamas) Ltd., doing business as Norwegian Cruise Line, in the Southern District of Florida. The lawsuit, filed under Case No. 1:25-cv-25794, alleges that Sosa suffered serious and permanent injuries after slipping and falling on loose tile and gravel inside a café aboard the Norwegian Getaway.
Cruise Passenger Injured After Slipping on Loose Tile and Gravel Near 14th Floor Café on Norwegian Getaway
According to the complaint, the incident occurred while Sosa was walking through the café area located on the ship’s 14th floor. The lawsuit alleges that loose tile and gravel were present on the walking surface in and around the café, creating an unreasonably dangerous condition for passengers. As Sosa traversed the area, she allegedly slipped on the debris and fell, sustaining injuries that required medical care and disrupted her cruise experience.
The complaint asserts that the hazardous condition was not readily apparent to passengers and that Sosa had no warning that loose material was present on the floor. The lawsuit maintains that passengers entering a dining area aboard a cruise ship would reasonably expect the flooring to be secure, clean, and free from slipping hazards.
Norwegian Cruise Line Accused of Failing to Inspect and Maintain Café Flooring
Sosa’s lawsuit alleges that Norwegian Cruise Line failed to properly inspect and maintain the flooring in and around the 14th floor café. The complaint claims that the cruise line allowed loose tile and gravel to remain on the floor despite its obligation to regularly inspect passenger walkways and correct dangerous conditions.
According to the allegations, Norwegian either knew or should have known that loose debris was present in a high-traffic passenger area. The lawsuit contends that the condition existed for a sufficient length of time that it should have been discovered and remedied through reasonable inspection and maintenance procedures.
Lawsuit Alleges Failure to Warn Passengers of Known Slip and Fall Hazard
In addition to maintenance failures, the complaint alleges that Norwegian Cruise Line failed to warn Sosa of the slipping hazard. The lawsuit states that no warning signs, verbal alerts, or barriers were provided to alert passengers to the presence of loose tile and gravel on the café floor.
The complaint asserts that Norwegian had a duty to warn passengers of dangerous conditions that were not open and obvious. By failing to provide any warning, the cruise line allegedly deprived Sosa of the opportunity to avoid the hazard or take precautions while walking through the area.
Plaintiff Claims Permanent Injuries and Ongoing Damages from Cruise Ship Fall
As a result of the fall, Sosa alleges she suffered bodily injuries that caused pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life. The lawsuit also claims she incurred medical expenses, lost earnings, and a diminished ability to earn income in the future. According to the complaint, some of these injuries are permanent or continuing in nature and are expected to affect her going forward.
The lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $50,000 and demands a jury trial. Sosa alleges that Norwegian Cruise Line breached its duty to exercise reasonable care under the circumstances and failed to provide a safe environment for its passengers.
