Massachusetts Woman Sues Norwegian Cruise Line After Tripping on Moved Table Inside Stateroom on Norwegian Gem
Doris Silvia, a resident of Massachusetts, has filed a maritime personal injury lawsuit against Norwegian Cruise Line in the Southern District of Florida. The complaint, filed under Case No. 1:25-cv-25416, alleges that Silvia suffered serious ankle injuries after tripping on a piece of furniture that had been moved by a crew member inside her stateroom aboard the Norwegian Gem on June 25, 2024.
Cruise Passenger Injured in Stateroom After Furniture Was Rearranged Without Notice or Warning
According to the lawsuit, Silvia was in her cabin aboard the Norwegian Gem when a Norwegian Cruise Line employee moved a table inside her stateroom. Later, while trying to locate the light switch, Silvia tripped over the table, which had been repositioned into an unexpected location.
The complaint alleges that no warning was given that the furniture had been moved, and that Silvia was unaware of the table’s new placement. As a result of the fall, she suffered a Grade II sprain and Achilles tendonitis, which eventually required surgical intervention on May 29, 2025.
Norwegian Cruise Line Accused of Creating Hazardous Cabin Conditions by Moving Furniture Without Notice
Silvia asserts that Norwegian Cruise Line breached its duty to provide reasonably safe conditions within her stateroom. She alleges that the cruise line was negligent in multiple ways, including:
- Creating a dangerous condition by repositioning furniture
- Failing to maintain staterooms in a safe condition for passenger use
- Failing to warn passengers of layout changes
- Using ineffective operational procedures that increased the risk of injury
The complaint also notes that Silvia promptly reported the incident to both the ship’s Front Desk Manager and a member of the vessel’s security team.
Plaintiff Seeks Damages for Ongoing Pain, Loss of Mobility, and Emotional Distress Caused by Stateroom Trip and Fall
Silvia claims that her injuries have resulted in ongoing pain, reduced mobility, and diminished quality of life. She continues to require medical care and alleges that the incident has caused permanent or continuing disability. The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for physical and emotional injuries, as well as medical expenses, and requests a jury trial.
