Ohio Woman Sues Playa Resorts in Florida Over Slip and Fall at Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort in Jamaica
Linda Rohr and her husband James Rohr have filed a premises liability lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida against Playa Resorts Management, LLC and Playa Management USA, LLC. The complaint, filed on May 21, 2025, alleges that Linda Rohr sustained serious injuries after slipping on an excessively wet and slippery floor while vacationing at the Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort and Spa in Jamaica. The lawsuit is pending under Case No. 0:25-cv-61005.
Guest Injury Lawsuit Filed in Florida Over Unsafe Conditions at Jamaican Resort
According to the complaint, Linda Rohr was a paying guest at the Jewel Grande Montego Bay Resort on May 22, 2023, when she slipped and fell due to unreasonably wet tile flooring. The fall caused a wrist fracture that required surgery and additional medical care. The lawsuit claims that the hazardous condition was not open or obvious and that the resort failed to take basic safety precautions to prevent such injuries.
Plaintiffs Claim Playa Resorts Failed to Maintain Safe Premises for Guests
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants, who manage and support operations at the Jamaican resort from their offices in Fort Lauderdale, breached their duty to maintain safe walking surfaces and failed to inspect or remedy slippery areas. The plaintiffs assert that the resort’s flooring presented an unreasonable risk of harm and that Playa Resorts failed to implement slip-resistant measures despite the foreseeability of wet conditions.
Legal Action Includes Claims for Negligence, Maintenance Failures, and Lack of Warning
The complaint includes multiple negligence-based claims, including failure to inspect and maintain the floor, failure to implement safety policies, and failure to warn guests of the hazard. It alleges that the dangerous surface conditions directly caused Linda Rohr’s injuries and that the resort operators either created or negligently failed to prevent the condition that caused her fall.
Husband Brings Loss of Consortium Claim Related to Wife’s Injury at Resort
James Rohr also brings a loss of consortium claim, stating that his wife’s injuries have caused a loss of companionship, assistance, and other contributions to their household. He seeks damages for both past and future impacts on their marital relationship stemming from the injury at the resort.
